The opening started with Cedric the Entertainer (Barbershop) and L.L. Cool J (NCIS: Los Angeles) rapping a “Just a Friend” TV parody. A lot of the other nominees where there and stared joining in including Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso), who did more of a monotone duet. Cedric was his usual hilarious self with teasing Rene-Jean Page about Bridgeton and his sex scenes and finding a new host for Jeopardy.

Some of the Losses and Wins

Hamilton did have a deserving nomination in a Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). However, none of the cast members won an Emmy for the acting. Both Philippa Soo (Over the Moon) and Rene Elise Goldsberry (The Good Wife) lost to Julianne Nicholson (I, Tonya and Boardwalk Empire) for her role in Mare of Easton. There were at least three other nominations in the Supporting Actor category in Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for Hamilton:
