The Ice Road: Good Movie, Bizarre Fight Scenes
Liam Neeson (Cold Pursuit, Taken and The Next Three Days) does not play the stereotypical character with anger issues in this film. In The Ice Road, he plays Mike McCann, an out-of-work truck driver, who loses his job after defending his disabled brother, Gurthy (Marcus Thomas, Drowning Mona) at their last job. Mike’s outbursts were mostly in the beginning of the movie, when he was trying to defend Gurthy against his co-workers and the Veterans Affair (VA) hospital.
Mike and Gurthy end up taking on an ice road rescue mission in Northern Manitoba, where miners are trapped because of a methane pocket that was hit. The ice roads are man-made roads over frozen rivers, lakes and oceans. These roads can be fatal to drive on because the ice is less than 30 inches thick and the vehicles can weight up to 65,000 pounds. The rescue mission is even more dangerous because it takes place in April, supposedly when the ice is not that thick. The supplies that are also needed would probably weigh more than what is used on an average ice road truck.
There were diverse characters that made The Ice Road interesting. Tantoo (Amber Midthunder, Roswell) a Native American who gets bailed out of jail by Jim Goldenrod (Laurence Fishburne; Matrix Trilogy and Contagion)…
